The 2dvr.com service is easy to set up. The steps below can be used to perform the DVR programming, 2dvr.com account setup and the Remote Administration System software programming. The DVR name you choose (be sure to remember the name and whether you use upper or lower case letters) and the DVRNS server, 2dvr.com is entered into the DVRNS programming menu fields at the time the DVR is installed. Once a dynamic Internet connection is plugged into the DVR it automatically contacts the 2dvr.com DVR Name Service server to check if another customer has already acquired the name. If the name is available the DVR registers the name with the 2dvr.com name service.

The customer then goes to the 2dvr.com web site to register the DVR name for a 30-day free trial and to open an account for billing options. The customer then loads the client RAS remote software included with the DVR on to their personal computer and enters the DVR name using the appropriate programming steps (see DVR Setup).

DVR Programming
The specific instructions listed below are typical of the DVR programming screens needed to enable the 2dvr.com DVR Name Service (DVRNS). Some screens may have the specific field in a different location but the information entered into the field is similar. If your DVR is located behind a firewall or part of an internal LAN, additional programming may be required. Refer to the Advanced Programming section of this site or the General Network Setup and Troubleshooting sections if needed.

Apply power and turn the DVR on. On some DVRs connecting the power cord to the DVR turns on the unit, others have a power switch. The DVR takes approximately 60 seconds to initialize.

Before using your DVR for the first time, you need to establish the initial settings which includes time and date, display language, camera, audio, remote control, record mode, network and password. Your DVR can be programmed using various screens and dialog boxes.

Press the button to enter setup and the Login screen appears.

Select a User and enter the password by pressing the appropriate combination of Camera number buttons, then the button. There is no default password when logging in the admin user for the first time.

Highlight the Information box and press the button to enter the first setup screen.

Highlight Date/Time in the System menu and press the button. The Date/Time setup screen appears.

Highlight the first box beside Date and press the button. The individual sections of the date will highlight. Use the Up and Down arrow buttons to change the number. Use the Left and Right arrow buttons to move between month, date and year. Once you have the correct date, press the button.

Highlight the Format box beside Date and press the button. Select from the three available date formats and press the button to save your selected format. Highlight the first box beside Time and press the button. The individual sections of the time will highlight. Use the Up and Down arrow buttons to change the number. Use the Left and Right arrow buttons to move between hour, minutes and seconds. Once you have the correct time, press the button.

NOTE: The clock will not start running until you have highlighted Save and pressed the button.

Highlight the box beside Time Zone and press the button. Select your time zone from the list and press the button.

Highlight Use Daylight Saving Time and press the button. Pressing the button toggles between On and Off.

Network Setup
In the Main screen, use the Left or Right arrow buttons to display the Network menu and press the button.

Highlight the LAN tab, and the LAN screen displays.

Highlight the box beside DNS (Domain Name Service) Server and press . Press the Up and Down arrow buttons to set the IP address of the DNS server. The DNS server IP address should be obtained from your Internet Service Provider (ISP). In the case where a PC is available and connected to the same network as the DVR, the DNS server IP address can be determined using the "ipconfig /all" command from the DOS prompt. In all other installations, you will need to contact your ISP for the DNS server address. If you set up the DNS Server, the domain name of the DVRNS server instead of the IP address can be used during the DVRNS Server setup. (Refer to the DVRNS Setup section for details.)

For general or basic dynamic Internet DVR connections, the default LAN programming in the DVR is acceptable. Depending on the type of Internet connection (DHCP, ADSL with PPPoE), specific programming fields may need to be changed, for example when a DVR is located on a LAN network or behind a modem/router or firewall. Refer to the DVR User's Manual or the Advanced Programming section of the 2dvr.com site for details.

Highlight the DVRNS tab and the DVRNS screen displays.

Highlight Use DVR Name Service and press the button to check On.

Highlight the box beside DVRNS Server and press the button. A virtual keyboard appears allowing you to enter the domain name of the DVRNS server - enter the server name as 2dvr.com.

NOTE: You can use the domain name instead of IP address if you already set up the DNS Server when setting LAN.

Highlight the box beside Port and press the button. Set the port number of the DVRNS server using the Up and Down arrow buttons to increase or decrease the numbers. The default port is 10088. Please refer to the DVR User's Manual or the Advanced Programming section of the 2dvr.com site for details.

If the DVR is located on a LAN network that uses Network Address Translation (NAT), highlight Use NAT and press the button to toggle between On and Off. This ensures that the public WAN Internet address is registered with the 2dvr.com name server and not the LAN address. Refer to the DVR User's Manual or the Advanced Programming section of the 2dvr.com site for details.

Note: The DVR cannot be doubled NAT'ed, i.e., router on a router operation is not allowed.

Highlight the box beside DVR Name and press the button. A virtual keyboard appears allowing you to enter the DVR name (be sure to remember the case, upper and lower case characters) to be registered on the 2dvr.com DVRNS server.

Highlight the Check box and press the button to check whether or not the name you entered can be used.

NOTE: The DVR name you entered should be checked by selecting the Check field, otherwise the DVRNS changes will not be saved.

NOTE: When entering no name or a name already registered on the 2dvr.com DVRNS server, an error message will be displayed.

Highlighting Save and pressing the button registers the DVR on the 2dvr.com DVRNS server. Proper DVRNS settings will display the help desk information of the 2dvr.com DVRNS server in the box beside Help Desk.

CAUTION: If you want to use the same DVR name registered on the 2dvr.com DVRNS server after initializing the system using the factory reset, you need to contact 2dvr.com customer support. Please record and save the help desk information before factory reset.

CAUTION: The DVRNS registration will be limited to one DVRNS server. The DVR cannot be registered to multiple DVRNS servers.

You can save your Network changes by highlighting Save and pressing the button. Selecting Cancel exits the screen without saving the changes.

When complete highlight the SAVE button and press button.
