This setup assumes that the only changes that have been made to this unit have been done to establish internet connection and the remainder of the unit is in its default configuration.
Verify that you currently have working Internet access by opening your Internet browser and going to any web site. If you do not have Internet access contact the Internet provider for assistance.
Gain access into the Router by typing into the address bar of your Internet browser http://192.168.1.1 and hit the enter key. You should see a new window open that prompts you to enter a user name and password. If you do not get this prompt then the Routers configuration has been changed.
Leave the user name blank and type "admin" in the password field.
Once you enter the Router it will start at the "Home" page. Click on the "Status" tab and note your "Internet IP address". The IP address shown is the current outside IP address of the Router. This address should not be an IP address that starts with 10.X.X.X, 192.168.X.X or 172.16.X.X. If it is then the modem that the Router is connected to is also a Router and must first be configured in a bridged or pass through mode before continuing. Please contact the internet provider to assist you with making this configuration change.
Decide upon what IP address you will use for the DVR. It must be an IP address that functions with the Router, it cannot be used by any other device, it should be statically assigned and it must be outside the DHCP pool. In most cases an IP address from 192.168.1.2 to192.168.1.99 or from 192.168.1.151 to 192.168.1.253 will work.
Click on the "Applications & Gaming" tab. There you will find "Port Range Forwarding". The port forwarding will need to be setup for the DVR. Give the "Application" a descriptive name such as ADMIN, WATCH and SEARCH and type it into the field. Type in your "Start" and "End" "Port Range". In most applications these will be the default port numbers that are used on the DVR. 8200 - Admin, 8016 - Watch, 10019 - Search and 8201 - Call Back (not always used. Please refer to the DVR manual). The port range can be setup individually by using the same port number for the start and end. It can also be setup by opening the full range 8016 to 10019. Select "TCP" for the protocol type. Type in your DVR's local IP address and "Enable" the port. Repeat this for all the ports used.
Enter the local IP address that was used in the "Port Range Forwarding" into the IP Address setup of the DVR. For the gateway in the DVR use the Router's IP of 192.168.1.1.
When connecting to the DVR from inside the network, use the local IP address that is in the network setup of the DVR. When connecting to the DVR from outside the network, use the DVRNS name.
The system is now setup and ready to use.
