Troubleshooting - Connection Errors

Error Message: Connection Time Out
This is received when there is no response from an IP address. Verify this by using the PING command (see PING below).

Note: Can only be tested when the IP address is known.

"Request Timed Out" PING response - Incorrect IP address or defective network equipment.
Inside Network - Check cables and the IP address in the DVR.
Outside Network - Many Internet providers have disabled the PING response in their network. A "Request Timed Out" response may not indicate a problem.

"Reply from" PING response - A firewall is blocking connection to the DVR.
Inside Network - Check for a personal firewall on the computer and change its settings to allow connection.
Outside Network - Have another computer attempt to connect. If neither can connect then the problem in most cases is with the firewall at the DVR location. If only one of the two can connect then the problem is probably a personal firewall on the remote computer.

Error Message: Remote Host Does Not Respond
This is typically received when there is not an acceptable response from the DVR location. See Connection Timed Out.

Error Message: No server running
This is received when a network device has responded to a connection request. In most cases this error message is received because a firewall is preventing connection.

Error Message: invalid user ID or password
This is received when the password in the RAS site does not match the password in the DVR. The password used when creating the remote site must match the password in the DVR. The DVR's default password is 12345678.

Error Message: DVRNS Error
Error Code 1 - Network Error. Check network connection on the PC running RAS.
Error Code 2 - Connection failed. No connection to DVRNS server.
Error Code 201 - DVR Name is not registered or found on the DVRNS server or unable to authenticate the DVR name.
