Westell Ver. A Modem/ Router Network Setup

Please Note: This setup assumes that the only changes that have been made to this unit have been done to establish internet connection and the remainder of the unit is in its default configuration.
  1. This Modem/Router has only one Ethernet connection. Connect the computer, Westell and the DVR to the switch. Verify that you have Internet access. If you do not have Internet access contact the Internet provider to assist you in setting this up.
  2. Enter the router. To do this you will open your browser and type its gateway number (typically http://192.168.1.254 or http://192.168.1.1) in the address line and select the ENTER key.
  3. The router should not ask for a user name or password. It should just go directly to its home page. If it does then you must contact the Internet provider to assist you in entering the Westell modem.
  4. On the home page it will show what your current WAN IP address is. This is your current outside connection IP address. Make a note of this IP address.
  5. On the home page you will see this icon to enter the expert mode. Click on it. You will get a warning message. Click on "Yes" to proceed to the "Expert Mode". You will notice that there are now a few more icons on the home page.
  6. Click on "Configure" and then on "Connection". At the bottom of the window make sure that the connection is set to "Always On". If it is already set then close the window and go on to the next step. If it is not, change the selection to "Always On" and save your setting.
  7. The Westell must be made aware that the DVR is connected to it. Click on "Diagnostics". In the "Other" field under "IP Test" type the IP address of the DVR. Click on "Test". You should get a "success" response.
  8. Next under "Configure" click on "NAT". You will see the following screen.
  9. Click on "Define Custom Service". Then click on custom service and click next. Then select "Port Forwarding with Translation"
  10. Give your "Service" a descriptive name. Type the local IP address of your DVR. Note: If the device that is connected to the Westell is the DVR with its default IP address then use 192.168.1.129. Set the local and global ports. In most cases these are both set to the same number. The default port numbers for the DVR are ADMIN 8200, WATCH 8016, SEARCH 10019 and if used CALL BACK 8201. Select the TCP protocol. Then click on next. Continue to add services until you have opened all the necessary ports.
  11. In the network setup of the DVR verify that the IP address and Gateway are set accordingly. If you have used the defaults throughout the setup then use the IP address 192.168.1.129 and the Gateway 192.168.1.254.
  12. Use the IRAS software to connect.
